- In 2016, students at Hiroshima Prefectural Yukiminami Senior High School came up with the idea of producing konnyaku (yam cake) in the shape of a Japanese giant salamander.
2016年に広島県立雪南高校の生徒が、オオサンショウウオの形をしたこんにゃくを発案しました。 - The Japanese giant salamander is a national natural treasure, which is found in rivers throughout the prefecture.
オオサンショウウオは国の天然記念物で、県内の川に生息しています。 - The following year, with the cooperation of konnyaku manufacturer Fujitoshi Foods, the students commercialized the product, which became so popular that production cannot keep up with the demand.
翌年、こんにゃくメーカーの藤利食品の協力で商品化し、今では生産が追いつかないほど人気です。 - The fish roe is kneaded to make it look more realistic, and the individual fingers of the Japanese giant salamander are reproduced one by one.
魚卵を練り込んで見た目を近づけ、指の1本1本まで再現しています。 - It has become a hot topic on social media, with people commenting, “It’s too real to eat,” and “It’s grossly cute.”
