It is a word combining “friend” and “enemy.”
フレンド（友達ともだち）とエネミー（敵てき）を組くみ合あわせた言葉ことばです。

While outwardly behaving like a friend, they badmouth them behind their back or try to undermine them.
表面上ひょうめんじょうは友達ともだちのように振ふる舞まいながら、陰かげでは悪口わるぐちを言いったり、相手あいての足あしを引ひっ張ぱったりします。

Unlike a mere enemy, its feature is that rivalry and hostility lie hidden within a close relationship.
単たんなる敵てきとは異ことなり、親したしい関係かんけいの中なかに競争心きょうそうしんや敵意てきいが潜ひそんでいる点てんが特徴とくちょうです。

Originally coined in English-speaking countries, it has recently come to be used in Japan as well.
もとは英語圏えいごけんで生うまれ、近年きんねんは日本にほんでも使つかわれるようになりました。
