• Troubles due to cultural differences arise, and the burden on the strained social security system increases.

It is a fact that Japan currently has a labor shortage.

日本は今、人材不足であることは事実である。

However, that does not mean we should haphazardly accept immigrants and leave them to fend for themselves.

だからといって、場当たり的に移民を受け入れ、当事者任せにして放置してはいけない。

If they remain unable to speak Japanese, they will end up isolated among friends who understand each other.

日本語が話せないままだと、通じ合える仲間同士で孤立してしまう。

If that situation is neglected, a division with the local community will arise.

その状況を放置すれば、地域との分裂が生まれる。

The government implements only financial incentives.

政府は、金銭的な優遇措置ばかりを実施する。

As a result, a sense of unfairness arises among the Japanese people, and it also ends up fueling exclusivism.

それにより日本人の間に不公平感が生まれ、排他主義にも火をつけてしまう。

What is necessary is making education in the Japanese language and Japanese culture mandatory, in order for them to adapt to Japanese society.

必要なのは、日本社会に馴染むための、日本語と日本文化の教育の義務化である。

Employers, for their part, should bear the responsibility of providing educational support, instead of just seeking low wages.

雇用する側も、低賃金を求めるのではなく、教育支援の責任を負う。

Both foreigners and Japanese people are living here by the arrangement of this ‘matchmaker’ called Japan.

外国人も日本人も、この日本という「仲人」の引き合わせで、ここで共に生きている。

If both parties appreciate this ‘matchmaker’ and can learn deeply about its existence, coexistence is certain to proceed harmoniously.

双方がこの「仲人」に感謝し、その存在を深く学ぶことができれば、共生はきっと円満に進むはずだ。

The ‘matchmaker’ must be hoping so.

「仲人」はそう願っているはずである。
