The World’s Oldest Company Is in Japan

世界最古せかいさいこの会社かいしゃは日本にほんにある

Japan has approximately 49,000 companies with over 100 years of history, the highest number in the world.
日本にほんには、創業そうぎょう100年以上ねんいじょうの企業きぎょうが約やく4万まん9,000社しゃあり、世界最多せかいさいたです。

Of the 12 companies in the world with over 1,000 years of history, 9 are in Japan.
創業そうぎょう1,000年超ねんちょうの企業きぎょうも世界せかいに12社中しゃちゅう9社しゃが日本にほんにあります。

At the top stands Kongō Gumi, founded in the year 578.
その頂点ちょうてんが、578年創業ねんそうぎょうの金剛組こんごうぐみです。

It was founded by temple carpenters invited from Baekje by order of Prince Shōtoku.
聖徳太子しょうとくたいしの命めいで百済くだらから招まねかれた宮大工みやだいくが創業そうぎょうしました。

For over 1,400 years since, the company has carried on the craft of temple and shrine construction.
以来いらい1,400年以上ねんいじょう、社寺建築しゃじけんちくの技術ぎじゅつを受うけ継ついでいます。

Kongō Gumi has a family precept saying, “Never reach beyond the core craft,” passed down through generations.
金剛組こんごうぐみには「本業以外ほんぎょういがいに手てを出だすな」という家訓かくんが代々伝だいだいつたわっています。

Holding to one thing. It is that resolve, that mission, and that calling that has sustained 1,400 years.
一ひとつのことを守まもり続つづける。その覚悟かくご、使命しめい、そして天命てんめいが、1,400年ねんを支ささえてきました。
