This is a coined word made from “Congratulations” and “Thank you.”
「おめでとう」と「ありがとう」をつなげた造語です。
When someone says “Congratulations” to you, you use it to mean “Thank you for saying ‘Congratulations’ to me.”
「おめでとう」と言われたら、その相手に「『おめでとう』と言ってくれてありがとう」の意味で使います。
Sometimes, people also say “Omeari-” by elongating the ending.
語尾を伸ばして「おめありー」と言うこともあります。

The word “Ometan” is a combination of the words “Omedetou (congratulations)” and “Tanjyoubi (birthday).”
「おめたん」とは、「おめでとう」と「誕生日」を組み合わせた言葉です。
Also expressed as “Otaome” or “Tanome” for “Otanjyoubi Omedetou (Happy birthday).”
その他「お誕生日おめでとう」は、略して「おたおめ」や「たんおめ」とも表現されます。
