More and more shops, including conveyor belt sushi shops, have installed AI robots to receive customers in their entrances. On the other hand, anxiety that AI robots might take over human jobs in the near future is increasing. In the midst of this, there were reports in the media about a hotel firing the robots it had been using to guide guests from reception to their rooms. The reason for this dismissal is that they could not respond appropriately to the various questions from guests. In addition, it was pointed out that repairing, updating and maintaining the robots cost too much. Some people were relieved to hear that a supposed solution to the labor shortage, actually turned out to be the opposite. In the USA, there was a scandal over a court case in which the judges ruled that faulty facial recognition technology had discriminated against a person, mistakenly labeling them as a thief. Furthermore, “The Truth About Killer Robot,” a documentary film that focused on a human accidentally killed by a robot, was released in 2018. The SF movie “A.I.” directed by SPIELBERG in 2001 captured many people’s imaginations with its portrayal of a sorrowful robot who yearns to gain the love of a human. Now, the AI robots portrayed in the sci-fi movies of the past, are becoming a reality. Can human beings coexist with AI robots after all? This could be seen as being fundamentally identical to the issue of accepting immigrants.
