Man: I made a mistake (It is closed). /dansei: shimatta! Manga Explanation Scene 1. The man mistakenly said kowai (scary), a word which resembles kawaii (cute). Scene 2. This time the man said kirai, a word that resembles kirei (pretty). Scene 3. You should be careful not to make these kinds of mistakes with pronunciation. Some people mistakenly say kawaisou (pitiful) when they mean that something looks kawaii (cute). Scene 4. The word “shimatta” refers to a situation in which a door has been shut, but it is also the phrase you mutter when you’ve made a mistake.
