Recently, more and more people are using Zoom, an online tool that allows people to communicate. In September the latest version was updated, and a “custom gallery view” function was added. Using this, organizers can change the order in which attendees appear, or pin certain people to the top of the screen. In Japan guests or those in positions of authority customarily sit at the furthest seat from the door in any room. These seats of honor are called “kamiza” (the highest seat). As the new function is added, some people have raised concerns that a kamiza has been created online.
