In August, a two-year-old boy went missing in Yamaguchi Prefecture, but was found three days later. People were surprised that he had survived in not only the severe heat but also in the rugged mountain terrain. The boy was found by a 78 year-old man living in Oita Prefecture. He joined the search as a volunteer. Drawing on his experience as a volunteer in disasters such as the Great East Japan Earthquake and the Kumamoto Earthquake, he found the boy in just 20 minutes. The commendations keep coming in both for the two-year-old’s strong survival instinct and for the 78-year-old’s decisive actions.
