The weight of primary school pupils’ satchels is becoming a problem.
The reason is that recently textbooks have grown in size while their pages have also increased in number.
Because of this, some students have had to have orthopedic surgery due to the strain on their spine and lumbar region.
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology told schools in September that they should allow pupils to leave their textbooks at school.
However, the debate continues over issues such as the fact that some lockers don’t have keys and over whether textbooks should be digitalized.
