As a result, Japanese criticism of China has increased. Because of this, some members from the ruling Liberal Democratic Party moved to cancel President Xi’s visit to Japan. In response, a major figure in the LDP strongly opposed cancelling the trip, stating that it would be disrespectful. Up until now visiting heads of states have been treated as guests by the emperor. However, because China has been threatening the security of Japan and other countries with its dogmatic stance, many Japanese do not want to receive a Chinese head of state. Soon after the Tiananmen Square incident occurred in 1989, China was severely criticized by the world. However, Japan prioritized its economy and was quick to resume business with China.
