This is a coined word made from “Omedetou (Congratulations)” and “Arigatou (Thank you).” When someone says “Congratulations” to you, you use it to mean “Thank you for saying ‘Congratulations’ to me.” Sometimes, people also say “Omeari- ” by elongating the ending.
