Junior High School Student Changing the History of Shogi

In Japan, there is a board game that is similar to chess called shogi and it has 5.3 million enthusiasts. A shogi prodigy has appeared in the shogi world. Following on from his debut, Japan’s youngest professional shogi player, 14-year-old FUJII Sota, managed to win 29 victories in a row by June. This is an all-time record. It is said that, in the world of shogi there is a big difference between the ability of professionals and amateurs. There are approximately 200 professional shogi players at present, and they compete with each other for eight official titles. The history of shogi dates back to before the Nara period (710-794). Though it has its roots in the ancient Indian game of caturanga, shogi has a unique set of rules. In chess, you cannot use pieces captured from the enemy, however, in shogi, you can use captured pieces as allies. In other words, there’s a thrill to be had in making an opponent switch to your side instead of killing them. Fuji Sota has been the cause of an unprecedented shogi craze and from now on people will be watching his progress closely. Since solving shogi problems stimulates the imagination, shogi has been reevaluated from an educational standpoint.
