The start of the new Japanese school term is in April, but delayed this year due to Covid-19. Some people are suggesting that the opportunity should be taken to start in September to coincide with the beginning of the school year in many other countries. In Japan, until the current system was developed, the beginning of the school year varied from school to school, only later commencing in April, partly so that it would coincide with the beginning of the fiscal year. If it did start in September, there would be some advantages, for instance, it would suit students studying abroad, however, there are some problems, such as changing the present job-hunting period.
