The Book “Anti-Japan Tribalism” Makes Waves

In August, the book “Anti-Japan Tribalism” became a bestseller in Korea. Written by six Korean authors, including economic historians, it has severely criticized Koreans who believe that “being pro-Japan is bad and that being anti-Japan is justified.” While some people have praised this book stating that “it’s true that Korea is internationally infamous for its culture of lies,” some people have strongly criticized the book. Reports critical of Korea for making complaints against just about anything concerning Japan, come out almost every day in Japanese news reports. However, a weekly magazine apologized after being criticized for its over reactionary stance. Calmer voices are increasingly being heard, saying that, “Many Japanese and Koreans do not know the historical truth, and as a result are influenced by biased politicians and the media.”
