Medaka is a freshwater fish about three centimeters long that is native to Japan.
New species of pet medaka have been bred one after another, and now there are over 200 kinds.
Compared to tropical fish they are relatively low maintenance and are so easy to keep that it is said that medaka enthusiasts outnumber goldfish enthusiasts.
