When inputting script into a PC, most Japanese use the Roman alphabet and convert it into hiragana, katakana, or kanji. The Roman alphabet is used to spell out things such as the names of stations, but sometimes, even if you input this text exactly as written, it will not be correctly converted into Japanese characters. For instance, if you input Tokyo or Osaka, they respectively convert to “ときょ” or “おさか.” If you’re using the Roman alphabet and input the word as it is pronounced in Japanese, that is “toukyou” or “oosaka,” it will correctly be converted (to “とうきょう” or “おおさか.”)
