Life Mounds

In order to protect people from harm caused by tsunamis, ancestors built high mounds on the flat plains facing the sea. They are inochiyama (life mounds). Local municipalities that are located on coastlines have been learning about this type of prevention strategy from the wisdom of their predecessors. (From June issue, 2014 / 2014年6月号より)
