National Budget Focuses on Post Corona Recovery
In Japan, generally, the fiscal year begins in April. The national budget for the financial year in 2021 has been set at a record high of 106.6 trillion yen. With the addition of a supplementary budget, this comes to about 125 trillion yen. Within the 19.2 trillion yen of the supplementary budget, 4.4 trillion yen will be used to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Post coronavirus economic recovery measures come to 11.7 trillion yen. Although the “Go To Travel” campaign is thought to have contributed to the third wave of coronavirus infections, one trillion yen has been included in the supplementary budget in order to restart the campaign. There was an outcry from opposition parties, who said the money should be used to support the healthcare system.
