Don’t Throw Away Ehoumaki Sushi Rolls

Marking the last day of winter, February 3 is Setsubun day. On this day various traditions are observed in order to get rid of bad luck and invite in good luck. One of these is having ehoumaki sushi rolls; it is said that if you eat it facing in a lucky direction, your wishes will come true. However, in recent years there have been reports of many unsold ehoumaki sushi rolls being thrown away at supermarkets and convenience stores. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has called for manufacturers to adjust production in order to avoid food waste.
