In September, children tried their hand at assembling a wooden jungle gym at the Sasayama Children’s Museum in Tambasasayama City, Hyogo Prefecture. About 20 children participated in one of the workshops held by the museum. The jungle gym is four meters high. It was assembled with 100 pillars and 100 horizontal timbers using the traditional Japanese “nuki method” of construction. Wooden wedges are driven between the timbers to hold them in place without the use of nails. It is sturdy and does not shake even when an adult is on it. The jungle gym has been dismantled, but is available for rent for those who wish to use it for a fee. ( From November issue, 2022 / 2022年11月号より）
