Exchanging Business Cards (2) - How to Receive a Card -

A business card is how a person represents themselves. So, it should be treated with care. It is basic etiquette to receive it with both hands, being careful that your fingers do not cover any text or the logo of the company. By saying “Choudai shimasu” on receipt of a card you can make a humble impression. In addition, by picking up information from the name and address on the card and commenting on it, the conversation will flow smoothly. If you stay seated at a table, you should place the card you’ve received in front of you. When you move on without having sat down at a table, you may place the business card inside your card case. When dealing with one person, it’s best to place their card on top of your card case. When dealing with several people put the card of the highest ranking person on top and position the others beneath in order of rank. When sitting face to face it’s also a good idea to order the cards according to where the people you’re meeting with are seated. When the conversation is over, place the cards you’ve received inside your card case.
