The Pre-elderly

At present the elderly are generally defined as being those of 65 years and older in Japan. However, the Japan Gerontological Society and others have suggested that those between the ages of 65 to 74 years old be called jun-koureisha (the pre-elderly) and those aged 75 and over be referred to as koureisha (the elderly). This is because today’s elderly population are younger than the elderly of ten years ago.
