In May, during a game of American football, a Nihon University player tackled a Kansei Gakuin University player while he wasn’t holding the ball, injuring him for three weeks. The Nihon University player explained that he was acting on orders from his team director and coach and apologized to the injured player. However, the director and coach repeatedly stated that it was a misunderstanding and that they hadn’t issued this order. The director and coach were criticized in the media for not taking responsibility and the issue escalated with blame being placed at the door of the administration of Nihon University.
