Announced this November, the results of a survey of Taiwanese people on their opinions about Japan showed a majority of 59% of respondents favored Japan over other countries. The second most popular country was China at 8%, followed by the USA at 4%. Though Taiwan was once under Japanese rule, just as Korea was, the country is largely pro-Japanese. To the question, “Which county should Taiwan be most friendly with?” Japan came top, and to, “Is Japan reliable?” 50% chose “reliable” as opposed to 9% who selected “unreliable.” Meanwhile, even to this day, Korea continues with its anti-Japanese propaganda so that relations with Japan have worsened. You could say that this is an example of politicials and the media having a huge influence on people’s opinions.
