Currently, it is said that there are over 30 million people in need of refugee support. However, many advanced countries are reluctant to accept those refugees. The birth of humanity, Homo sapiens, occurred approximately 300,000 to 200,000 years ago, with DNA analysis pointing to a woman in Africa. It is said that humans, originating in Africa, eventually dispersed to various parts of the world in search of resources. And it is thought that around 50,000 to 40,000 years ago, they may have reached East Asia. The influence of climate and natural environment was significant, and they settled in places that were comfortable to live in. The main factor that made this possible was likely the absence of concepts of nations or boundaries of land. Moving dwellings to survive is something modern-day refugees also face. Humanity is now confronted with the choice between indigenous rights and the right to survival for refugees. When pondering this, the words of Japanese astronaut MOHRI Mamoru resonate - “From space, national borders were invisible.” (From May issue, 2024 / 2024年5月号より)
